Still life oil painting of a single lilac rose in bud vase in silhouette. One of my favorite approaches to painting is to first establish a strong composition in black and white. Once the design is established, I premix piles of colors paying special attention to the hues and values. This provides a palette from which I am able to work directly, making strong color notes, one upon another. I love the patches of pure color and how the marks sing.
